Innovating Together in the Field of Film and Identification Solutions!

In combination with a wide variety of materials, the cooperation between herpa print and Avery Dennison exists for many decades. Avery Dennison is a world-leading, manufacturing company in the field of self-adhesive materials and technologies. herpa print has been developing smart identification solutions for more than 70 years and is implementing a variety of Avery Dennison materials.

Both companies develop innovative solutions for the various challenges in the field of films and identification. In this context, we are currently jointly investigating the use of laser etch labels. herpa print has already successfully switched applications for some major customers to this material.

Laser markable labels have been on the market for many years. In most cases, these materials consist of a white foil equipped with a black top layer. In the laser machine, the top layer can be removed by laser beams during the printing process. Since the black layer has a very high resistance, it is possible to produce extremely durable labels.

Another advantage over conventional labels is that laser materials can be used during the marking process, so that labels are flexibly available in different dimensions and shapes. Most of the materials used so far have low internal strength, so they tear easily and leave visible traces after removal or manipulation. As a result, the labels are not transferable. This combination of high performance and security features results in very high prices, which are often prohibitively expensive for many OEMs who want to uniquely identify their devices or items. In addition, the high-quality and cost-intensive labels with safety effects are not absolutely necessary in many cases, or even make the labeling itself more difficult.

Avery Dennison's innovative solution uses a much more economical polyester film instead of an acrylate film. This means that labels can be produced using the laser process with significantly lower material costs, which impress with their high resistance to chemicals and weathering.

The added value of laser-markable labels goes beyond applications in the automotive sector. Other markets such as medical equipment, fire extinguishers, washing machines, tools, appliances, and control cabinets can also use laser marking technology. For example, in the medical device market, a unique product identification system that uses laser-markable labels to adequately identify medical devices can be used to improve patient safety and modernize post-market monitoring of devices.

The PET 50 Black Laser Etch film is characterized by the fact that parts of the black top layer of the material evaporate. Compared to thermal transfer printed labels, no additional thermal transfer ribbon is required.

The laser-markable PET-based labels impress above all with their attractive price, coupled with an extremely high load capacity. Customers looking for durable labels that are only used in unique device-of-item identification simply pay for what they need at a fair market price. If required, herpa print can also add security features to meet the customer's requirements.

Advantages at a glance:

1. High contrast and excellent marking accuracy

2. High resistance to mechanical, chemical and climatic influences

3. Flexible formatting and label design: laser marking/cutting

4. UL and CSA approved for indoor and outdoor use
